Porte is an Australian rider that will compete with the BMC Racing Team. He is looking to win his first Tour de France title. He has competed the last six years and he finished fifth a year ago, his best overall finish. He has cracked the top 20 just twice in six years.

The riders roll off the ramp near Stade Vélodrome to arrive there as well. The route is mostly flat, except for an explosive climb to the iconic symbol of Marseille, the basilica Notre-Dame de la Garde. The 1.2 kilometres climb at 9.1% runs to the summit, which is crested at kilometres 15.6. Following a 2 kilometres descent the last 5 kilometres head back to the home base of the Olympique de Marseille football club.
This year's Tour featured only an Individual Time Trial so far, on Stage 1. It was was a flat ITT of 14 kilometres and Geraint Thomas took the win ahead of Stefan Küng. The former has abandoned the race after a crash while the latter has been consistently strong at similar efforts in recent seasons, including parcours involving short climbs.
World time trial champion OddsTony Martin has been very quiet so far in this Tour De France. Maybe he was only waiting for this stage, even if there are concerns around his form. He came up short on Stage 1 in Düsseldorf and will certainly be extra motivated to end his Tour with a stage victory.
Chris Froome doesn’t need to win the stage he just needs to beat Rigoberto Uran and Romain Bardet to secure his 4th Yellow Jersey in Paris. He knows the race is his though, so a conservative ride may be more likely.
Rigoberto Uran will need a repeat performance of the time trial of his life to have any hope of surprising everyone and winning this year’s Tour. The Colombian beat Froome in a Vuelta time-trial back in 2014, challenge him in the Tour de Romandie and win in his absence at the Giro.
Primoz Roglic has shown his time-trialing prowess over flat, prologue stages, such as when winning stage one of Ster ZLM, as well as hillier, longer efforts, such as stage five of the Tour of Romandie, should be hard to beat here. he won the final time trial at the Tour of Italy last year and has already taken victories in three time trials so far this season. He will give his 100% in order to understand if he can develop in a Grand Tour contender or not.
Johnathan Castroviejo is also an excellent ITT rider. He has been more active in the mountain stages of the Tour as support for team leader Quintana. He climbs better than Kung which should give him a slight time boost on the 2 kms of the climb. Anyway, he was soundly beaten by Froome in a late time-trial during last year’s Vuelta and this one is no better for him. Tour
Vasil Kiryenka was one of the most impressive rider in the first ITT in Dusseldorf, and he can handle some climbing on the way to posting fast times, as he demonstrated on Stage 10 in the Giro D'Italia.
